For the first time ever, Swedish epic doom metal pioneers CANDLEMASS will bring their monumental sound to Australian shores this September and October for a long-awaited debut tour in Melbourne, Sydney and Perth.

Formed in Stockholm in 1985 by bassist and main songwriter Leif Edling, Candlemass stand as one of the true architects of epic doom metal. Alongside Saint Vitus and Trouble, they defined the genre — pairing slow, crushing riffs with grand, operatic vocals and darkly majestic compositions.

Their 1986 debut Epicus Doomicus Metallicus didn’t just introduce a band — it created a movement. Over the next four decades, Candlemass built a towering discography and enduring global legacy, earning Swedish Grammis Awards and were also nominated for Best Metal Performance at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards in the US.

When you hear the words Vermont and Anarchy what's the first thing that comes to mind? Thats right modern rock fans, it's those gin sippin' punk aficionados Bodyjar!! If you've spent any time ridin' skateboards or sniffin' glue over the last 25 years your senses would not doubt have been aurally assaulted by the sheer melodic mastery of tracks such as Not The Same & One In A Million. Whitehorse City Council are so enamored with Bodyjar that they have commissioned an 80ft gold plated statue of the band to be erected on the top of Vermont South shopping Centre which will henceforth be known as 'Bodyjar Plaza'. Bodyjar have one less guitarist than the Foo Fighters but write much better songs.....you do the math........

Bodyjar also hold a special place in The Corner Hotel's history. They were the very first band to play The Corner after it opened as a live music venue in December 1995, so it only felt right that they kick off our 30th birthday celebrations.

Surviving for more than 30 years as both a critically acclaimed and internationally touring band takes more than luck. It takes determination, integrity and an unrivalled knack for writing great songs.

Following the release of their seventh album New Rituals and celebrating the 25th anniversary of their landmark record No Touch Red, Bodyjar continue to pack out venues across the country with the high-energy live shows that have defined their career.

In 2026, they're celebrating 25 years of How It Works with a national anniversary tour, bringing one of Australian punk's most iconic albums back to stages around the country.

Tentendo makes groove-driven electronic music that draws from hip hop, R&B and soul, pairing carefully layered percussion, thick synths, sweet, sticky vocals and thumping bass lines to create lush neo-soul at its very best. Collaborating with everyone from R&B singers to rappers, his work showcases both his versatility and depth as a producer.

Front Bar Sessions with Tentendo (Corner 30th Birthday)

Underground Lovers are super excited to celebrate 30 years of their acclaimed independent album, Rushall Station, at a special afternoon show at The Corner on Sunday 4 October.

Rushall Station was a pivotal record for Underground Lovers. It was their first independent long-play, a self-funded and defiant release after some tumultuous music industry dealings in the years prior.

Recorded with producer Wayne Connolly in January 1996, the album was a further move toward the songcraft and songwriting explored on 1994's Triple J favourite, Dream It Down.

Underground Lovers continued to work against the current trends and styles, producing an album rich with guitar layers, symphonic bass, sparse string arrangements, subtle electronica and cutting, yet melodic, lyrics.

The album was originally launched at The Corner Hotel in 1996, and it is exciting for the band to be playing these songs again at the same venue 30 years on. It is especially timely with The Corner celebrating its own 30th anniversary.

The band toured the Rushall Station album extensively throughout 1996, including performances at SXSW in Austin, Texas. The record went on to be nominated for Best Independent Release at the ARIA Awards that year.

The upcoming anniversary show will focus on key tracks from the album, complemented by strings from Zoë Barry and Amanda Brown (Go-Betweens). A selection of iconic tracks from the Underground Lovers back catalogue will close out the set.

This special afternoon gig will be a delight for old-school Undies enthusiasts, as well as younger fans who missed the album the first time around.

A reissue of the original Derek J. Yuen-designed Rushall Station T-shirt will be available at the show.

Underground Lovers (Corner 30th Birthday - Rushall Station 30th Anniversary)

Join The Whitlams this October as they embark on an old-fashioned East Coast pub run.

“Return to Rock Island” takes the band back to its favourite rock rooms, where if only the walls could talk about the joyful two, three and four night residencies over the decades. Long sweaty nights at these pubs formed the bedrock of The Whitlams’ reputation as a memorable force in the Australian live scene.

What better way to mix things up after the elegance of the celebrated Orchestral ’26 tour, with its eight symphony orchestras, 30,000 people, and concert halls across the country. Now it’s back to the pubs where the audience is standing up close.

Joining the bill for the whole tour is William Crighton with band, promoting his 4th studio album, ‘Colonial Drift’. The pioneer of Bush-Psych and a bold voice of Australian folk rock, Crighton weaves stories of land, spirit, and struggle with raw intensity.

The tour opens at two pubs where the band held Sunday afternoon residencies back in 1994 - Hotel Brunswick just north of Byron Bay, and the Hoey Moey in Coffs Harbour.

From there, multiple nights at The Triffid in Brisbane and The Corner Hotel in Melbourne, before a long- awaited return to Sydney’s Metro Theatre, the venue where the band filmed its live DVD performance in 2004.

The set list will tend towards the high energy side of the seven album repertoire - loud, and built for a crowd with nowhere to sit.

Tim Freedman is joined by stalwarts Terepai Richmond on drums and Jak Housden on guitar, with Ian Peres returning on bass and keys.

Milly Strange delivers a powerful blend of folk storytelling and gritty alt-rock, crafting songs that are raw, intimate, and emotionally charged. Inspired by artists like PJ Harvey, Angel Olsen, and Sharon Van Etten, her music explores contrasts light and dark, beauty and unease, through vivid imagery and dynamic soundscapes.

Her self-titled debut album is a cathartic dive into grief, transformation, and identity, earning airplay across Triple J, Double J, PBS, and more. Rolling Stone praised the release as "the arrival in Australian music of a young indie rock singer-songwriter of supreme talent, assured spirit, and encyclopaedic musical knowledge."

Based in Melbourne, Milly has supported artists like Folk Bitch Trio and Peter Bibby and sold out headline shows with her five-piece band. Now, Milly Strange is poised to cast the same spell on international stages.

THE ENGINE ROOM TO CELEBRATE 40 YEARS OF HUMAN FRAILTY AT CORNER HOTEL'S 30TH ANNIVERSARY

Hunters & Collectors members John Archer, Jack Howard, Doug Falconer and Barry Palmer reunite as The Engine Room for a one-night-only Melbourne show — with a lineup of special guest vocalists.

The Engine Room — John Archer (bass), Jack Howard (trumpet), Doug Falconer (drums) and Barry Palmer (guitar), the instrumental core members of Hunters & Collectors' unmistakable sound — will reunite for a one-night-only performance at Melbourne's Corner Hotel this October, celebrating 40 years since the release of the band's landmark album, Human Frailty.

The show forms part of the Corner Hotel's own 30th anniversary celebrations, with both milestones landing on the same night - a coincidence the band say feels entirely fitting for a room with such a deep connection to Australian live music. Despite decades of history across Melbourne's live circuit, this will mark the first time the four have performed together at the Corner Hotel as The Engine Room.

The Engine Room will be joined across the night by a handpicked lineup of special guest vocalists, each bringing their own voice and interpretation to songs drawn from Human Frailty and the broader Hunters & Collectors catalogue. The guest lineup will remain a surprise, revealed only on the night.

The birth of The Engine Room traces back to a sold-out charity show in Castlemaine earlier this year, when the core members of the band reunited to raise funds after bushfires in January 2026 devastated Harcourt, the Central Victorian community, and where Doug Falconer's brewery, which lost 80% of its stock and most of its packaging. Joined on the night by special guest Paul Dempsey from Something for Kate, the response from the room made clear just how powerfully these songs still resonate - and set the wheels in motion for a bigger celebration.

“Human Frailty was just such a great bunch of songs to work on - they suited what we did so well,” says Jack Howard. “It’s still a bit of a shock listening back to it. This isn’t just seeing another band playing Hunters songs - it’s seeing the actual band play them.”

“The four of us played together as a unit for a long, long time – our job was to always serve the songs by finding the right energy,” explains Barry Palmer. “The songs we are playing are classics, so the job of The Engine Room is to walk on stage and nail that energy.”

Released in 1986, Human Frailty is widely regarded as one of the most significant Australian albums of all time, its songs having become woven into the fabric of Australian live music across four decades.
