GANGgajang, the iconic Australian band, has etched its indelible mark on the country’s music landscape, captivating audiences for four decades with their unique blend of rock, pop, and nuanced storytelling. Formed in 1984, GANGgajang‘s distinctive sound and thought-provoking lyrics have made them a beloved and enduring presence in the Australian music scene.

GANGgajang’s roots trace back to an early1980s song writing session, when former singer of The Riptides Mark “Cal” Callaghan, and Angels rhythm Chris Bailey and Graham ‘Buzz ’Bidstrup together with singer Kayellen Bee, wrote several songs for the ABC series “Sweet and Sour”. Their debut single Gimme Some Lovin’ was born from these sessions and was released in late 1984.

A year later, with the addition of The Aliens ’Geoffrey Stapleton, and guitarist Robbie James this eclectic mix of talents and backgrounds contributed to the creation of a sound that transcended traditional genres. GANGgajang reflected a new attitude: that music was all about ‘the song ’and that a good song could be played solely on an acoustic guitar. Thus, they became the ‘GANG’ that made the ‘gajang’: the sound of a guitar being strummed.

GANGgajang eponymous debut album was released in late 1985, featuring the legendary hit single Sounds of Then (This is Australia). This song, with its evocative lyrics and catchy melody, took on a life of its own as it resonated with the Australian people, encapsulating the essence of their homeland. It is a testament to the band’s ability to connect with their audience on a deeply emotional level and to convey a sense of national identity and nostalgia, that has seen the song reach anthem status and continue to connect with new generations of fans to this day. The debut album contained the singles, Gimme Some Lovin’, Giver of Life and House of Cards, and quickly climbed the charts to become part of the music revolution reinventing the Australian sound.

The albums that followed: gangAGAIN, Lingo and Oceans and Deserts, showcased their musical versatility and further defined GANGgajang’s unique sound. They won global audiences, most notably in Brazil, where the huge surfing community went crazy for the GANG. The band toured Brazil three times playing to packed venues, with one of the highlights being an outdoor concert to 20,000 fans on Rio’s Copacabana Beach. Add to this GANGgajang’s soundtrack to Quiksilver’s 1986 cult surf movie “Mad Wax” and it’s no wonder the group was crowned ‘The World’s Best Band ’for two years in a row by the Professional Surfers Association of America.

True to their ‘GANG’ philosophy, this ‘informal body of friends ’has continued to work together for 40 years, while also pursuing a myriad of separate interests: Buzz as manager of Jimmy Little and a 20 year CEO of the charity Uncle Jimmy Thumbs Up! plus The Stetsons, Marks long career in music publishing and board member of APRA, plus a resurfaced Riptides, Robbie 6 years with Yothu Yindi, Chris and Buzz touring with Jimmy Barnes, to name but a few. The branches of the GANGgajang family tree do indeed span far and wide.

Their debut EP, "Making Room For Others", is here, and they’re taking it up and down the east coast to celebrate. Straight off a run of sold-out shows, the Sydney indie rock four-piece are bringing a brand new live show packed with new songs, old favourites and plenty of energy.

Equal parts fresh and nostalgic, Civic Video write honest, heart-on-sleeve songs inspired by DMAs, Gang of Youths and Catfish and the Bottlemen. Live, they pair the emotion of Holy Holy with the energy of Sam Fender — delivering shows that are both intimate and anthemic.

Ticking off their live Australian debut in 2026, Texas-hailing five-piece I PROMISED THE WORLD will arrive ready to stun this September and October. Born out of a desire to thrive in the face of tragedy, I PROMISED THE WORLD started life after the father of vocalist/guitarist Caleb Molina lost his life in 2020 due to COVID. Officially forming in 2023, I PROMISED THE WORLD is both an extension and expression of Molina's grief, while also showcasing a cathartic defiance and celebration in the process. With his signature blend of cinematic soundscapes and raw, evocative vocals, TOBiAS

leads a powerhouse ensemble of the Sunshine Coast’s finest musicians on a reimagined

journey through four decades of The Cure’s legendary catalogue. From the moody

Tobias Celebrates Music of The Cure

Named after the Melbourne Cup-winning racehorse, media puzzle is the solo recording project of Lismore-based artist and musician Tom Peter. Australian egg punk meets pop sensibilities. Jittered guitars and lofi fuzzed out vocals. 2 minute songs that linger for a lifetime. media puzzle are fast becoming one of the most exciting musical exports.

Over the past three years, media puzzle has released three scuzzy post-punk albums and two blisteringly short, high-energy EPs. Residing somewhere between Suicide’s dark minimalism an Uranium Club’s eccentric edge, the project’s last two releases earned an exclusive vinyl feature at Rough T rade and a strong 7.6 rating from Pitchfork, which praised its “uncanny creativity that egg-punk weirdos love to tout.”

Having carved out a space between drum machine-driven egg-punk and fuzzy scuzz-pop, the newest record marks a departure from previous efforts and hints at a maturing sound. After a year of DIY recording and touring, opening for Regurgitator and being booked around Australia, media puzzle returned with a fourth (and still somewhat speedy) album, New Racehorse. Moving beyond the drum machine-heavy egg-punk approach of earlier releases, this record is their most collaborative yet, blending oddball pop and garage punk.

East Coast Earners — Hip Hop Showcase

Moodswing Records presents East Coast Earners, a local showcase bringing together some of the rawest underground Australian rappers from Newcastle and the surrounding area for one night at King St Warehouse.

Featuring Quaid Pearce, Crofty, Kurda, Kammanda, Jeebs, Manic 97 & Rxspark, Hade, Mello & Mutt, — a diverse lineup of artists who have all previously recorded at Moodswing Studio and represent the talent coming out of the local scene.

Expect a wide range of underground sounds, spanning grime, hoodtrap, boom bap, nostalgic hip hop and everything in between, with each artist bringing their own style and flavour to the stage.

With Moodswing Records owner Quaid Pearce now based interstate in Melbourne, this will be his first show back in Newcastle. For his return, Quaid wanted to bring the whole area together and showcase the artists, friends and community that have been part of the journey.

A night dedicated to underground hip hop, local talent and supporting the artists putting in the work.

LeStrange has become a defining name in Australia’s Hard Techno scene, known for his relentless sets and unmistakably heavy sound.

Joining him is Nik Sitz, one of the country’s rising forces in the harder sounds, bringing his own raw and energetic approach behind the decks.

Together, they bring two distinct sounds from the Australian Hard Techno scene to Newcastle for one seriously heavy night.

JETLAG are hitting the stage at King Street on Sunday, October 18th for an explosive headline show to celebrate the launch of their brand-new single, ‘Turbulence’.

Formed in 2024, JETLAG have quickly carved out a reputation for loud, high-energy shows, killer riffs, and tight, powerhouse performances. Fronted by the magnetic Chappy on vocals and rhythm guitar, the band features Toby’s ripping lead guitar, Reuben locking down the low end on bass, and Cooper driving it all from behind the kit. Following the success of their debut release ‘Sight for Sore Eyes’, the band is ready to turn up the volume and unleash their biggest song yet.

This gig marks a massive victory for the four-piece after winning Newcastle’s Bandwidth competition in 2025, proving they're one of the most exciting young acts in the local scene.
